IYEC/ Grand Challenges Canada Project

The communities of South West Region of Cameroon have been grappling with the Cholera outbreak over the last few years. Rise in heatwaves and extreme temperatures caused by Climate Change are accelerating the growth of certain water-borne pathogens in the Region such as vibrio species, which act through drinking water and recreational water use. To address the issue of water- born diseases ( such as cholera and typhoid) that are plaguing the Region and initiate Sustainable Changes in the supply of affordable drinking water in terms of quality and quantity in the Southwest region
Integrated Youth Empowerment Center (IYEC) is working in partnership with Grand Challenges Canada to kickstart a 18 Month Pilot Project. IYEC Safe Water Innovation Project Aims at Promoting Water and Sanitation at the Community Level. The pilot project is implemented in Manyu Division at Okoyong Village and will benefit some 5000 Community members. The innovative project is promote WASH and Reduce health risks in the Community.

IYEC is looking for other funders that will continue to fund the innovative project in order to meet the water needs of thousands of people in Communities that lack Affordable and Clean Water. This will continue to Promote WASH and Reduce health risk in Hard to reach Communities of Cameroon.
